were invited to perform in the presence in upstate new york for the holiday. it was not a big political thing. it was a holiday. we were just going to go and sing sing christmas carols, do some rap songs, whether we could do to cheer up the brothers that were locked up. we started to do it over and over again. it was only 10 years later and that we began to see ways to use that in a more pro-active way. we would come out of a nightclub in new york city, my brother, my cousin, and i. we had had some experience with the police harassing us on the streets. this particular night, somebody had gotten into a fight, we were probably the only black folks in a white neighborhood the party that they were at, they were playing salsa, marvin gaye, and we were hanging out after the birthday party. we got caught up in a situation where the police had been called for shots fired. we happened to be the only black people there, they got us and put us in jail. that was the first day that you mentioned. the long and short of it is, i was in my second year of law school at the time. i am reading all these

's a big chance the defense is taking to go after the father of the defendant. when have you ever seen that in in any trial in this country? and yet, baez diecided that he had to raise questions about george anthony so the jurors would go back to the deliberation room to say too many questions in this case to be certain enough to convict on first degree murder. somehow the duct tape got on caylee's mouth. baez is trying to plant the seed that maybe george anthony did it for some bizarre reason, who knows? but again, it isn't the defense burden to prove anything and if the jury has these free floating question marks, some anxieties about the burden of proof, that could be enough to get either not guilty or as was pointed out a couple of moments ago, a couple of hold up jurors who said i'm not going to convict casey anthony of first degree murder. there's not enough evidence to convince me beyond a reasonable doubt. >> great to see you this morning. thanks so much. happy fourth of july to you and to your viewers this morning, we want to let you know that at 8:30 eastern time, continuing

, but never quite so close to default. since we've been accumulating a big national debt, congress has raised the debt ceiling just 78 times. since 1960 alone. since the nation's debt reached the $1 trillion mark in the early 1980s, look at how government borrowing has skyrocketed. climbing really at an ex exponential rate. how is $14 trillion in relation to how big the economy is. it's about 95% of the size of the whole economy. we're fast approaching rates not seen since way back in world war ii and the great depression. when the size of the debt limit and the national debt was actually bigger than our gdp. this is what economists call a debt crisis. america runs by borrowing money. right now, 38 cents is borrowed money. if the debt kreeling is not raised in time, the u.s. could default on some of the payments. that's the last thing we need, recovering from a recession. >> fomdominique strauss-kahn ma face new sexual assault charges even though the case in new york is falling apart. at a san francisco bart station. ktvu tara moriarty says there are still big questions after last nights deadly confrontation. >> reporter: police did recover broken class and three bowl casings. it's providing clues to what happened last night on the civic center station platform. sirens wailed as an ambulance rushed the suspect to the hospital. he was pronounced dead within an hour. the initial 911 call came in at 9:30. authorities say the suspect was on the station platform. he appeared intoxicated, stumbling around and wobbling. now two bart officers arrived at 9:45 and within one minute three shots were fired. at least two bullets striking the suspect. investigators found saturdays of glass at the scene. >> they will be met with required force. something occurred that they were threatened. something forced them to use utilized force. >> reporter: in the wake of officer grant shooting, there may be a heightened public awareness regarding this solution. it has doubled training hours since that incident. it is conducting an investigation alongside san francisco police. we don't have ve
